#ThrowbackThursday - Big Break edition

Posted by Mitchell Communications Group on March 14, 2019

Each year, Mitchell hosts a week-long immersion into the Mitchell agency experience. We call it BIG BREAK: DISCOVERING DIVERSE TALENT.

The Big Break program allows a select group to learn from agency leaders while building their resume and collaborating with students from across the country on a project for a non-profit client.

This is the 8th year of Big Break and we have 7 students from multiple schools.

In honor of #ThrowBackThursday, we wanted to go back through some highlights of Big Break over the years and where some of our Big Breakers are now.

Donald Pollitt II - Big Break 2016

"Simply put, my overall experience as a Big Breaker was amazing and beneficial. The program gives you an inside look into agency life, which isn’t as scary as people make it out to be, and ultimately the main reason I chose to work at an agency. Mitchell is a great place to work and they truly value being inclusive, which is why the Big Break internship continues to be successful."

Donald is now a Public Relations Specialist at The Brand Amp in Costa Mesa, CA.

Brittany Bright – Big Break 2016

“By the time I had graduated from college, I had completed 4 internships. One of which was Big Break. When I went to my job interview for my first post-grad job at an advertising agency, my soon-to-be boss noticed my time & experience as a Big Breaker more than any other internship. Even after getting hired, she would tell others how I interned at Mitchell. Big Break was more than I could have ever imagined. It has prepared me for where I am today and set me up for success for my future here at Mitchell.”

Brittany is currently the Community Manager at Mitchell.

Cecil Robinson - Big Break 2018

“During my time as an intern for the Mitchell Big
Break opportunity, I gained hands-on exposure in the world of public relations. I had the chance to interact with not only professionals, but also students pursuing similar goals as myself. Since this opportunity, I am proud to say that I have used the skills taught to me from Mitchell. Furthermore, the friendships that I made during my internship are still near and dear to my heat today."

Cecil is currently a MA Candidate in Strategic Communication & Leadership.

Caroline Crosthwait – Big Break 2015

“My experience in the program was amazing. I learned so much about public relations and agency life and got to know some really fantastic PR professionals along the way… And the most incredible thing: this internship led to my career! Shortly after my graduation in May of 2015, I got a call from Mitchell about a job and have been with the company ever since. I’ve had varying positions throughout my almost four years here - from assisting with local media relations on the Walmart team to now managing a piece of national media relations for Sam’s Club. I’ve done everything from traveling to Walmart locations across the nation to train associates in customer service, to maintaining client relations in here NWA. I feel like I’ve already had a million incredible experiences at Mitchell, and I can’t wait for more!”

Caroline is currently an account executive at Mitchell.

Rykia Bernard - Big Break 2017

“First and foremost, my internship at Mitchell was great! I was able to fully understand how marketing and public relations case studies actually work. Being able to interact with the other interns was truly a rewarding experience. Since I was he only Journalism major there, I felt some what out of place at first, but once I understood the different roles that each and everyone of us played while executing our communications plan, I realized that team work truly makes the dream work. Each and everyone of us had a role to play with our project, and we all were able to take constructive criticism quite well, especially since I believed that we were all there to learn and gain hands on experience.”

Rykia is currently a beauty and natural hair care blogger and freelance writer.
