Each year, Mitchell Communications Group recruits college students from across the country to spend their spring break with us in Northwest Arkansas for an all-expense paid, mini internship known as Big Break. For one week, interns are immersed in a real-life agency setting where they receive extensive training, meet with clients, create a strategic communications plan and more. This is the big week – and our interns will be using this space to provide a glimpse into their journey:
Day 4 of Big Break 2014 could best be described by the word “hustle.” Ironically, we had a nice conversation about Olympic speed walking at dinner, but that’s not what I am talking about. After much deliberation, we created our strategies and it feels like we sprinted a marathon with them. Now, I am sitting on my bed in the Chancellor Hotel thinking about how the past four days have flown by so quickly.
A big thing that they talk about at Mitchell is enjoying the ride. I knew before I began the internship that I was going to be challenged, but I had no idea that I was going to have a blast.
It’s easy to enjoy the ride at Mitchell when you see real people acting like real people. It’s hard to describe, but I feel like I’ve finally given myself permission to just love my own brand because of the people who I have been around this week.
I felt so free when I realized that professionals I admire love bacon just as much as I do. They appreciate the remedies that dark chocolate provides. Chances are, they understand wearing thick-rimmed glasses because it makes me feel just a little bit cooler.
If there is one thing that I want to communicate it is that life doesn’t have to be a race or a marathon. It should be exactly what you make it. It could be a gallop, a trot, a waltz ... a ride.
