It’s impressive. From a clever and creative consumer packaged goods program to a well thought-out and executed corporate communications campaign to an earnest and effective business-to-business effort, one thing you can always count on is that great work will be showcased in the entries of the annual PRSA Silver Anvil Awards competition.

Recently, two Mitchell employees joined industry representatives in New York to help select this year’s winners. From what Holly Gilbert and Sydney Ayers have shared, being a Silver Anvil judge is an inspiring, educational experience.

Having served as a judge seven times, Sydney was tapped to lead her table as a senior judge for a third year.

Sydney’s thoughts:

“I have judged different categories every time. I always am amazed by the work I see from public relations teams at agencies, nonprofits, corporations and other organizations across the nation. The creativity and thoughtfulness that so many of these campaigns embody is exciting. It makes me so proud of our profession and the smart people in it.”

As a first-time judge, Holly said she came away from the event energized about the industry and the work fellow PR professionals are executing across the country.

Holly’s takeaways:

“The Silver Anvil is a coveted award in the public relations industry. To have the opportunity to analyze my category entries was both a great responsibility and a tremendous privilege. Each entry I reviewed showcased the creative approach that others have taken to elevate a company, a product or a cause and drive positive awareness. It reinforced my belief that PR is a powerful tool in strengthening a company’s brand.”

Both professionals agreed the entries they reviewed underscore the positive impact a comprehensive public relations campaign can have on an organization of any size, in any location. While the winners have been chosen, now might be the perfect time to engage an agency such as Mitchell to determine what public relations campaign you will pursue this year to elevate your brand. Who knows? Your program may just set the standard nationally by winning a Silver Anvil or an Award of Merit in 2014.
