Mitchell Communications Group makes it a priority to become involved in the community. We recently took that commitment to another level with Ignite, a new charitable giving program that allows our employees to direct agency financial donations and time to help others and experience the act of giving first-hand.
Once agency President and CEO Elise Mitchell announced the program, Mitchell employees divided into teams and brainstormed how they would give financial resources and time to benefit our community. Each team selected a worthy cause or initiated random acts of kindness right here in our own back yard:
- For one team, it was an evening spent dropping coins into washing machines at a local laundromat as part of the Laundry Love program.
- For another, it was a trip to the check-out lanes of a grocery store to pick up the tab for unsuspecting customers. One team directed its resources to Ninety-nine Balloons, which is a monthly respite night for families of special needs children.
- We had another team reach out and provide food and supplies to a single mother trying to secure a better job for her family.
- And finally, we had a team turn its cash donation over to a local elementary class to “ignite” a giving effort of its own. The class not only helped recent tornado victims in our area, but also learned about the importance of giving.
And while the financial component of Ignite certainly made a positive difference in the lives of everyone touched, it was the one-on-one interaction that hit home for many of our employees. They had the opportunity to play with the children of the families gathered at the laundromat. They could see the reactions on the faces of the customers at the grocery store. The time spent being inspired by a classroom of elementary students, and reaching out to a single mother driven to provide for her child, were unforgettable moments.
Once the giving was complete, each team shared its story with the rest of the agency. There were smiles, laughs and even a few tears. But above all, this agency was ignited with love for our community.
